Erlindr Swift-Claw

Traveler, Hunter, Tracker, Blacksmith

Age: 29Born: 2nd day, Last SeedRace: Nord Werewolf
Hair: Light blondEyes: Bright blue, golden flecks at the irisSkin: Pale

Erlindir is a tall jovial fellow, with a ready smile, which can quickly turn serious, as he gains an almost feral expression. He doesn't quickly enter a fight, but when he does, he's eager to finish it. Fighting with fists, axes or his bow.

He typically wears well-crafted leathers and bears two axes and two knives at his belt, along with a bow and quiver at his back, or on his mount—a large gray highland wolf. Once known for his brewing and blacksmithing in Skyrim, he’s since taken to the road more and has been traveling between High Rock and Hammerfell accompanied by a second wolf, smaller than the highland, but similarly gray colored.

He's taken jobs as a tracker, mercenary and doing smithing work, but he doesn’t seem to stay for long in any one place for long…

Erlindir is known to the townsfolk in places he frequents as the Nord with a ready laugh, a bit strange though, the way he seems to tilt his head as if hearing something and stare into the distance...

History

Erlindir was born the third of five siblings in Northern Cyrodill, accompanied by elderly grandparents, an aunt and uncle. His father Valdarr and mother Evetla Ulransdottir we’re hunters, trappers, and brewers who often traveled between Bruma and Falkreath, Skyrim, and other smaller towns. Valdarr and Evetla kept a small homestead, where they farmed a small plot, kept bees, trapped, hunted, and crafted both mead and beer, along with keeping some livestock. While isolated but for trips to towns such as Bruma and farther excursions.

Valdarr and Evalta were both from father North in Skyrim, having been born and raised in the Rift, both werewolves and cultists of Hircine, with the belief that receiving the gift of the Daedric Prince was a great honor, which both mother and father accepted. After a brutal fight with local followers of Shor, evoking Ysgramor, those that remained were forced to flee or die. Valdarr and Evalta escaped to the west, finally making their way into Northern Cyrodiil, where they settled.

The beliefs held firm, and they chose to practice their worship of Hircine in safety, ultimately raising their children with the teachings of the Daedric Prince, and in acceptance of the gift that was part of their family and pack. Life for Erlindir and siblings, while isolated, was full and busy, helping and learning, while also taking part in the worship of Hircine, and learning how to be both man and wolf. Ever cautious of losing their safety and sanctuary, they taught the children how to be one with their dual nature and their Prince.

When the Daedra and war came to Cyrdoill, and the Daggerfall Covenant took hold of the city of Bruma, the family found their lives disrupted, countryside ravaged, and fruits of their land taken in the name of King Emric. Outraged at the loss of their home and sanctuary, the siblings chose to raid the Covenant forces, against the stern opinions of Valdarr and Evalta and their elders.

The forces were too many and too well organized for the five of them, even attacking in there wolven forces in the night, they were flanked, surrounded, and two fell before they could flee, the eldest of them--Eyildr and Ragnfastr.

With the deaths of their loved ones and anger in their hearts, they had little option but to make for Skyrim, with the rest of the family.

Covenant soldiers followed their trail until they got far enough North that they reached safety, of a sort, but faced another loss, Hidinvi, Evalta’s mother, perished due to advanced age, after an injury on the trail.

Erlindir was enraged at the loss of loved ones, home, and livelihood. Still, his parents being pragmatic, sought out a place to settle and begin again in Southern Skyrim, far enough from Falkreath where they could create a place of safety. Still, it was too much for Erlindir, while he did help his family rebuild, there was a part of him questioning why they didn’t fully embrace the gifts that Hircine had given them, and help the people of Bruma.

His youngest sister Ulvhildr believed similarly, and the two set off for Burma. They found skirmishes between competing armies outside the city, with the Covenant forces entrenched within. The people they knew, had traded with, laughed with and shared ale with were trapped within the town, dead or fled.

With grim determination, Ulvhildr and Erlindr worked to aid refugees, getting them safely beyond the warring forces. They harassed and raided Covenant Forces, providing their spoils to those fleeing. At times they took their werewolf forms, stalking and hunting in the darkness, but most often, they appeared as their Nord selves, tall, fair, sharing similar blue eye color.

It was too much to hope that the Covenant would move on, as word reached them through refugees, the Imperial City had fallen and the war was escalating, with three factions fighting to take Cyrodill and the throne. Knowing they could do little but assist the latest group of refugees, the two left lands they had called home. Passing their burnt homestead as they traveled North, seeing the people to Falkreath, then making their way to the family they’d left behind.

Eager faces met them as they returned and related their grim news. It was a homecoming marked by grief, but with the understanding that they would prevail and grow stronger. Over the coming years, the family rebuilt and strengthened after moving deeper into Reach country, finding like-minded followers and were of Hircine to join their pack at the expense of increased isolation.

However, Erlindir was restless with this life of hiding, he began to travel farther out of the Reach lands. A brewer of mead and ale, he enjoyed trading with tavern-owners and sharing a drink with villagers.

But this wasn't to last after conflict forced his hand in a village on the outskirt of Solitude, and he revealed his true self, he fled and his trade route fell apart once word reached neighboring villages. He returned to the Reach for a time, but a life of hunting and survival wasn't something he wished to settle for--even considering the safety of the pack and people.
Making his way from the Reach, he ventured into Skyrim. But found no haven between a reputation marking him as a werewolf, and highly skilled hunters, he traveled on to the west with his two wolves unsure of what he might find far from what had once been his home.

Abilities

Hunting - Erlindir has been hunting game since he was able to keep up with his parents. His Lycan nature and reverence for the land means he is careful what he hunts and doesn’t do so for sport. While he has spent years honing his skill with a bow, he will just as often hunt as his true self when he’s far enough beyond towns and cities.

Tracking - With heightened senses and years spent tracking all manner of prey, even the upright bipedal kind, Erlindir is skilled at finding and following a trail. He has at times, made coin applying his tracking skills for townsfolk, looking for missing livestock, and locating miscreants and bandits that had been plaguing the locals.

Brewer - Erlindir, like his other siblings, grew up learning the various trades of his family, one being the art of brewing ale and mead--old family recipes, honed over years. He continues on the tradition, brewing whenever he can. And often considers settling down, maybe even opening a tavern. But it is a far often dream, one full of uncertainty.

Blacksmith - On his family’s homestead, there was a need for tinkering, repairing items and creating new. It was there that Erlindr learned the basics of smithing metal, and has since taken that further, picking up new skills from blacksmith’s in exchange for work when stopping through towns.

Brawler and Fighter - Growing up with a pack of siblings, one learns how to fight, by fist, teeth or claws. As he grew older, his mother taught him the art of combat using dual blades, axes being his choice. Whereas his father taught him how to use a bow with lethal results. He doesn’t often pick a fight unless it’s warranted, but when he joins, he’s out to finish it. Even given the rage that can accompany his Lycan self, Erlindir is strategic, and like any good wolf, will retreat to take on his prey at his own time and choosing.

Mysticism and magic - Being close to nature, and revering Hircine, and having some magical connection, Erlindir was taught the basics of Mysticism. How it can aid in tacking and divining the needs of a forest, but beyond that, he has more to learn.
